At 70 Under Acute Starvation in Delhi

I entered into my room just 10 minutes back and
now the time is 1.31am. I am coming after getting him admitted (Ward-11,
medicine emergency, 2nd floor by the name of unknown) in the hospital and
did CT Scan of his head and all required formalities.

He is at his 70 without food for around 15 days but I saw him the
unfathomable willpower to stay alive. What a filthy place! I found him in a
sleeping posture a little cloth but cow dung all over his body and where
people are urinating and all untouchable objects are available. Stood there
for a while took courage and asked him ‘Papa kuchh khayenge’ (father do you
want some food)! His face became bright and with all curiosity he expand his
hand towards me. By saying wait for a while I rushed to a nearby sweet stall
bought a bottle of water, some dhokla, laddo and one biscuit packet. Till
that time I had some other idea. I was planning to back to room after feed
something and telling him to eat the rest in the night. I had no immediate
idea that he is badly needed medical attention.

I reached at his place and tried to get him sitting but could not succeed.
He took the water bottle like he is thirsty for years. But when I tried to
offer him a piece of Dhokla and realized the real situation. He was not able
to eat or swallow. I sincerely thought about his health and tried to dial
100, that was 6.44pm in my watch.

I successfully communicated with the police control room and received assurance about the help. After waiting for few minutes received call from a police staff about huge traffic and his late reaching. The PCR van came for his rescue; by believing this I took the police staffs from the road. Here I should clarify about the location. While coming from Gurgaon to Dhaulakuan on NH-8 I found him sleeping under the flyover at Mahipalpur, in front of Raddission Hotel.
If I address the police staffs inhuman, who visited there by the name of helping will not be wrong in any way. They started saying this person has family members begging on the traffic light and eat chicken/mutton in the evening. You stand for an hour and see how this person can walk freely. One staff even offered him a bidi by saying see how he likes smoking. They started dialling to ASI of nearby police station convinced him that this person does not require any medical attention. They were ready to help a Drunk/Alcoholic (their statement) but not this person whose skeleton is very much visible. By the time around 50 odd people were present there. Once the PCR left the people present there said how a pathetic life this person is living. Even they said neither he has got a family nor they see him to take any food for more than 10 days.

At around 8.15 I dialled 102 and received a good response. Before that I dialled once more to 100 and even Vasantkunj Police Station. I got immediate help from CATS ambulance (Initiative of Delhi govt and Delhi Police). This time also nearby people came and said how this old man spending days and nights without food. Earlier he was managing his livelihood by begging from the nearby shops. I reached hospital at around 9.30pm. The CMO and other physicians in this hospital in the casualty/emergency are quite cordial and helping minded. They immediately gave him IV Fluid and did all the paperwork for his admission.
Now this patient is badly needed some micronutrient and medicines to recover his health/ malnutrition. I am thinking about his tomorrow’s medical upholding, rest will be planned latter.)

Please help this person live his rest of his life with peace and happiness.

Sincerely yours
Manas Das
